Custom backsplashes are a beautiful way to upgrade your kitchen or bathroom. These are designed to fit the wall behind your kitchen sink or a space within your bathroom. We create them using Hardie Backer Board, “a unique cement backer board that is the ideal combination of strength and uniform composition” for any bathroom or kitchen project. It is designed to be located in these watery environments and never loses its integrity, structure or beauty.
Creating these custom, one-of-a-kind projects with the design and colors that you love, in the size and space you need to fit your home is a joy. Whether you would like something that fits the current interior design of your kitchen, or you prefer something whimsical, we’re able to customize your backsplash to fit your unique needs.
The process will include meeting with you to discuss the size of your backsplash. Then, we will explore the design which interests you most. We’ll talk through the colors you’d like for the main design, as well as the background colors. The design will then be sketched out to obtain your approval. From there, we will select and purchase the specific colors of glass that will be used for the project. Then each design element will be hand-cut for the backsplash and the design laid out. Once that is complete, the glass pieces will be glued on using thinset mortar, which is an adhesive that can tolerate getting splashed. Thinset mortar is used in outdoor projects such as stepping stones, as it expands and contracts with the varying temperatures throughout the year, as well as tolerates fog, moisture and rain. All that to say, this adhesive is more than adequate for kitchen and bathroom projects. After gluing the central design elements of your project, the background pieces will get placed and glued. Once those have dried, the entire project will be grouted, and then it will be ready for shipping and delivery to you!
